📈 FathomVerse players have generated 1.6 million positive annotations and reached consensus on 54,319 previously unlabeled images.

💙 In a poll on Discord, I learned that most FathomNauts are following their hearts to choose favorites and it shows! The top two most favorited animals were familiar, including: Casper the ghost-like octo observed by @noaaoceanexploration and Octopoteuthis deletron observed by @mbari_news.

🤿 Sea fans, sponges, and bony fish could use your attention this week.

🏆 Are any new players on the leaderboard? Did anyone reach Denizen of the Deep this week? Let us know in the comments!

As 2024 draws to a close, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you who has made this year with FathomVerse absolutely magical. What started as a small team in May has blossomed into an incredible community of ocean lovers, adventurers, and passionate players.

When we launched just seven months ago, we could only hope that people would connect with our vision. Now, looking back, we're overjoyed to share some incredible milestones: Over 14,000 beachcombers have downloaded FathomVerse, joining our community science project! More than 1,000 players have skillfully navigated past level 3 and, in a testament to their skill and dedication, 66 remarkable Denizens of the Deep have made it to level 15!

Thank you for making this journey not just a game, but a vibrant, supportive community that celebrates our ocean and its inhabitants. Here's to exploring more depths in the coming year!

Have you ever heard of a siphonophore? This Nanomia siphonophore is a gelatinous animal with a cosmopolitan range–it is found in every ocean basin and migrates between the depths and the surface. You can see more siphonophores featured in the Into the Deep, En lo Profundo exhibit at @montereybayaquarium @tumontereybayaquarium
